Privacy Policy

Kana: Learn to Read Japanese collects no data about you. There is no account, no analytics, no advertising, and no tracking. The app makes no network requests while you use it. The course is bundled inside the app and pronunciation is generated on your device, so everything works offline.
What stays on your device
The app stores your learning progress so it is still there next time you open it:
- which characters you have met, and how well you know each one
- your review schedule, answer history and accuracy
- your daily goal, current script and streak
- which lessons you have completed
This is written to a private database inside the app's own storage on your device. It is never uploaded, never sent to us, and never shared with anyone. We cannot see it. Deleting the app deletes it permanently.
Purchases
If you buy the full course, the purchase is handled entirely by Apple. We never receive or store your name, email address, or payment details. The app only ever asks Apple a yes-or-no question: does this Apple Account own the full course? Apple's handling of that transaction is covered by Apple's Privacy Policy.
Children
The app is rated 4+ and is safe for children. Because it collects no personal information from anyone, it collects none from children either. It contains no advertising, no external links to the open web from inside the learning experience, and no user-generated content.
Third parties
The app contains no third-party analytics, advertising, attribution or crash-reporting SDKs. No data is shared with third parties, because none is collected.
Your rights
Regulations such as the GDPR and CCPA give you rights to access, correct, export and delete personal data a company holds about you. We hold none, so there is nothing for us to return or erase. The data on your device is under your control: deleting the app removes it, and the app's Settings screen has a "Reset all progress" option that clears it without deleting the app.
Changes
If this policy ever changes, the updated version will be posted on this page with a new date above. Material changes will also be noted in the app's release notes.
