Kana: Learn to Read Japanese is distributed through the Apple App Store. Your use of it is also governed by Apple's Licensed Application End User License Agreement, which applies in full. The terms below add detail specific to this app.

What you get for free

The first three hiragana units — fifteen characters — are free and complete, including the audio, writing practice and review for those characters. No payment or account is required to use them.

The full course

The full course unlocks the remaining characters across both alphabets. It is offered two ways:

• Full Course — a single payment. It does not renew, and it does not expire.
• Full Course, Yearly — an auto-renewing subscription, billed yearly.

Prices are shown in your local currency inside the app before you buy. Payment is charged to your Apple Account on confirmation.

Subscription renewal and cancellation

A yearly subscription renews automatically unless it is cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Your Apple Account is charged for renewal within 24 hours of the period ending. You can manage or cancel a subscription at any time in Settings on your device, under your Apple Account → Subscriptions. Cancelling stops future charges; it does not refund the current period.

Refunds

All purchases are processed by Apple, and refunds are handled by Apple under their terms. We cannot issue refunds directly. Requests can be made at reportaproblem.apple.com.

Restoring a purchase

If you reinstall the app or move to a new device, the paywall's "Restore purchase" button returns your access. Both products support Family Sharing.

What the app is, and is not

The app teaches recognition, pronunciation, writing and recall of hiragana and katakana. It does not teach kanji or grammar, and it is a study aid rather than a certified course or a qualification. The writing check evaluates stroke count, where each stroke starts and which direction it travels — it is not handwriting recognition and does not assess the beauty or correctness of your handwriting.

Acceptable use

The app and its content — including the recordings, course data and stroke guides — are provided for personal study. They may not be extracted, redistributed or resold.

These terms may be updated as the app changes. The current version is always the one on this page, with the date shown above.
